Learn

Since 1949, Theatre Tallahassee has furthered community understanding of the literary and dramatic arts, creating educational and inspiring theatrical productions while giving performers, directors, and designers room to grow. Our education program has always been part of that mission — from Acting UP Players, our beloved program for adults 50 and better, to a summer camp for young performers that has grown steadily since 2023.

Now, that foundation is expanding. Starting August 2026, Theatre Tallahassee is launching a year-round education program with something for nearly every age and interest:

  • Expanded Acting UP Players (AUP) — new opportunities for our adult 50+ community to keep exploring the stage. More Information Coming Soon!
  • Adult workshops and classes in acting, dance, and technical theatre for beginners and experienced theatre-lovers alike. More Information Coming Soon!
  • Youth after-school classes — ongoing theatrical education for young people, building on the success of our summer camp. These will be weekly classes following the school calendar year and culminating in a showcase.

Whether you’re stepping into your first rehearsal or your fiftieth, Theatre Tallahassee’s education program offers a place to learn, create, and belong. For 75+ years, we’ve believed theatre is for everyone, we hope you join us.

After-School Classes for Theatre Kids

Coming soon! Theatre Tallahassee will be offering once a week, after-school classes for kids grades 3-12, starting August 2026.

Theatre Tallahassee is proud to announce the launch of its year-round After-School Youth Education Program beginning August 2026. For the first semester there will be one class per grade level cohort, regardless of experience. Future semesters will offer advanced class options.

All classes are offered on a weekly basis after school. Students meet once per week in grade-level cohorts, ensuring instruction is developmentally appropriate and peer-focused.

What Students Learn

Each class session integrates three pillars of theatrical training:
Acting — scene work, monologues, character development, improvisation, emotional intelligence, script analysis, and memorization techniques
Music / Musical Theatre — vocal technique, performance confidence, and storytelling through song
Dance — movement, body awareness, choreography, and physical expression

Beginning students build essential foundations — projection, articulation, stage presence, and conquering stage fright. More experienced students explore advanced technique through mood-shifts, emotional intelligence, inflection, and nuanced character work. The goal is simple: the more tools in an actor’s “bag of tricks,” the stronger the performer.

Classes are highly interactive, energetic, and structured around teamwork. Students work in ensembles, learn to give and receive feedback, and discover how collaboration makes every performance stronger.

The semester culminates in an end-of-semester showcase, where every student performs for family and friends — a celebration of the hard work, growth, and artistry developed throughout the semester.
